Behind The Science

University of Idaho's Parks and Recreation Lab aims to get the dirt on human-environment relationships. We explore how people interact with natural resources in parks and recreation contexts using best-available social science methods.

The PRL

Our lab is located in north central Idaho at University of Idaho's Moscow campus. We're physically and administratively housed in the College of Natural Resources within the Department of Natural Resources and Society. Our work takes us everywhere from the state parks, rivers, and rangelands of Idaho to the urban parks of Washington, D.C. and the sunderbans of Bangladesh.

Meet Our Team

Lab Alumni

The lasting success and legacy of PRL is due, in large part, to the inquisitive and dedicated students of yesteryear, and their passion for the intersection of people, parks, and preservation. From municipal green spaces to remote landscapes nestled in the far corners of America, the impact of PRL alumni is both regionally and nationally significant. Many of our graduates are from Old Dominion University, but we still claim them as part of the Vandal family.
